WSOP to hold rematches between previous champions
Chris Moneymaker playing in the 2010 WSOP Main Event
This year’s 42nd annual World Series of Poker will feature a few heads-up freerolls that have never been done in WSOP history: rematches from previous WSOPs.
On Thursday, June 2 beginning at noon, three rematches will take place: Chris Moneymaker vs. Sammy Farha (from 2003), Johnny Chan vs. Phil Hellmuth (from 1989), and two mystery champions (voted on by fans).
In the Moneymaker/Farha event, 2 out of 3 matches will determine the winner. In the first match, they’ll begin with the same starting chips they had when they began heads-up in 2003. In the second match, they’ll start with each other’s stacks. And in the third match (if necessary), they’ll start with even stacks.
The other champion rematches will begin with even stacks.
You can watch them live at Amazon Ballroom at Rio, or wait until July 26, when they’re aired on ESPN.
